LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 23) – The Saint Vincent women's swimming team put forth a dominant performance, winning all 14 events in a 200-61 defeat of Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Franciscan University at the Frank and Elizabeth Resnik Pool.
Six different Saint Vincent swimmers recorded two or more wins on the afternoon.
Junior
Katie Kozy led the Bearcats with three individual wins. Her first victory of the afternoon came in the 200-yard butterfly, posting a time of 2:23.06 to win by more than 11 seconds. She would then go on to place first in the 100 freestyle in 58.70 seconds, before picking up her third victory in the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:24.80.
Lauren Krecota was the top distance swimmer of the day, opening with a 27-second win in the 1,000 freestyle in a time of 11:58.16, before taking first in the 500 freestyle in 5:47.76.
Erica Steele earned wins in the 50 freestyle (25.65) and the 100 backstroke (25.65), while reigning PAC Swimmer of the Week
Lauren Connors kept up her strong start to the season with first-place finishes in both the 100 butterfly (1:01.49) and the 100 breaststroke (1:12.48).
Rounding out SVC's individual wins on the day,
Cara Luallen placed first in the 200 freestyle in a time of 2:13.81,
Julia Mikita in the 200 back (2:37.86) and
Sara Basala in the 200 breaststroke (2:44.76).
The Bearcats also swept the day's relay events. In the first race of the day, the 200 medley relay, Steele,
Madison Cassidy,
Callysta Fontanazza and Luallen touched first in 1:57.49, while teammates
Brooke Himich,
Elise Debrot, Connors and Mikita took second in 2:04.70.
The afternoon closed with the SVC foursome of Connors,
Lily Holsey, Luallen and Steele placing first in the 200 freestyle relay (1:45.07), and teammates Krecota,
Emma Morgan,
Kelsey Sanborn and Basala taking second in 1:51.89.
Cassidy added second-place finishes in the 200 freestyle (2:14.66) and 200 breaststroke (2:47.62), while other SVC runner-up finishes included
Kelsey Sanborn in the 200 back (2:34.12), Debrot in the 500 freestyle (6:17.28), Holsey in the 200 butterfly (1:07.15), Mikita in the 200 freestyle (2:14.66) and Himich in the 100 back (1:10.76).
The Bearcats, now 1-1 in dual meets on the young season, will return to action on Friday, Oct. 29, traveling to northwestern Pennsylvania to take on future-PAC foe Allegheny College in a 6 p.m. meet.
