Bearcats open NCAA play with two wins over UPG

After a slow start, the SVC women's bowling team won two of three games against Pitt-Greensburg in the team's first NCAA event of the season.

In game one, SVC struggled from the outset, but the game remained close until the late frames.  Pitt, hosting the event at Main Bowl in Greensburg, then used timely strikes to pull away late, cruising to an 856-762 victory.  Sophomore Jackie Koehler led the Bearcats with a 192 game.

The Bearcats came to life in the first of two five-game Baker sets.  In the first game, SVC got off to a quick start and went on to win, 172-137 to take a 35-pin lead.  The Bearcats followed with games of 182, 178 and 170 before shooting a 160 in the final game, en route to an 862-684 win.

In the second Baker set, SVC only shot a 150 in the first game, but still took a 19-pin lead.  The Bearcats then threw their highest team game of the day, 205, in the second game to open the margin to 53 pins.  UPG closed the gap to just 29 pins after four games, but Saint Vincent responded with a 183-139 victory in game five to secure the point.

Monique Koehler led the way in Baker play with a per-frame average of 19.33, a game equivalent of 193.3.  Jessica Guesman finished at 17.64, while Jackie Kohler averaged 17.27.

The team will be back in action on the weekend of November 6-7 in the Buckeye Baker Classic in Columbus, Ohio.
