MEADVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 29) - The Saint Vincent men's swimming team traveled to non-conference Allegheny College for their first away meet of the 2021-22 season. Despite their limited numbers, the men had impressive performances, but Allegheny claimed the victory by a score of 199-49.
Kris Smith turned in three second-place individual finishes for the Bearcats. In the 100 backstroke, he claimed second in a time of 56.88 seconds in a tight race in which the top three finishes were separated by just 0.25 seconds. Smith also placed second in the 100 freestyle, timed in 1:06.41, while he claimed his third runner-up performance in the final individual event of the night, the 200 individual medley, with a time of 2:06.52.
Smith would also join forces with Matt Kail,
Robert Harrington and
Tyler Overmier to claim third in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:45.54.
Josh Ligus claimed a pair of third-place finishes in distance events. In the 1000 free, he posted a time of 11:27.25 to finish just a half second out of the second-place spot in a tight race. He would then touch third in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:38.01.
Rookie Matt Kail took second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.41.
Josh Ligus took third in the 1000 free with a time of 11:27.25, just over half a second behind the second-place finisher after a tight race.
Chris Bush placed third in a tight race in the 200 breaststroke, turning in a time of 2:26.39, while he swam his way to a fourth-place finish in the 200 freestyle in 1:58.97.
In the final event of the night, Overmier,
Noah Schollaert, Bush and Kail teamed up to earn third in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:38.10.
The Bearcats, now 0-2 in dual meets, will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 6, traveling to Indiana, Pennsylvania, to challenge Division-II Indiana University of Pennsylvania at an 11 a.m. meet.
