Chatham used a strong second half to edge out the Bearcats 2-0 on Senior Day at UPMC Field Sunday afternoon.
It was a strong defensive first half for both teams, as Chatham scored the only two goals of the game in the second half.
Although the score was 0-0 at halftime, Chatham controlled the first half, out-shooting Saint Vincent 18-1. The Bearcat defense held strong on several occasions, stopping the Cougars from getting on the board. Saint Vincent goalie Kendall Castor made eight saves for the Bearcats in the half.
Chatham remained in control in the second half, as they broke the 0-0 tie just over four minutes into the second half. Emily Harvey put the ball in the back of the net off a rebound, giving the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
Chatham continued to apply the pressure on the Bearcats, controlling the ball in their offensive zone much of the half.
After a Saint Vincent penalty, Chatham found the back of the net again around the 18-minute mark of the second half. Greta Mort scored for the Cougars, giving them a 2-0 lead.
The Bearcats had a couple of shots late in the game, but they amounted to no goals, ultimately leading to a 2-0 victory for Chatham.
Castor had ten saves, playing all 90 minutes in net for Saint Vincent. Tanisha Grewal had two shots, one being on goal. Lauren May also had a shot for the Bearcats.
Prior to the game, the Bearcat seniors May and Hannah Irvine were recognized with Senior Day festivities.
The Bearcats will hit the road and travel to Washington, PA to take on Washington and Jefferson college in a PAC match on Wednesday, October 6. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.
