STEUBENVILLE, OHIO - David Rahaman scored early in the second half to get the Bearcats on the board, but it wasn't enough as Franciscan topped Saint Vincent 4-1 on Saturday.
It didn't take Franciscan long to find the back of the net, as the Barons' Jonathan Schriner scored just over one minute into the match. Franciscan continued to control for much of the first half, outshooting the Bearcats 12-6.
The Bearcats had a couple of scoring opportunities in the first half but couldn't find the back of the net and Franciscan took the 1-0 lead at half.
It was much of the same story in the second half. The Barons found the back of the net again at the 49:20 mark of the game. This time Sebastian Koehler scored to give Franciscan a 2-0 lead.
The Barons weren't done yet. Five minutes after their second goal, Nick Miller scored on a penalty kick, increasing the lead to three.
The Bearcats wouldn't go down without a fight. At the 55:38 mark of the half, David Rahaman put Saint Vincent on the board as he scored on an assist from Cory Northrup to make it 3-1.
The Barons, though, would add on to their lead at the 71:18 mark, with Miller scoring his second goal of the game to make it 4-1 and close the day's scoring.Â
The Barons outshot the Bearcats 23-15 in the match. Rahaman had five shots total to lead SVC, while Griffin Prinkey added three shots and Cris White and Michael Gates two apiece. Shane Piper played all 90 minutes in goal for Saint Vincent, making eight saves.
The Bearcats will return home on Tuesday, Oct. 12, when they play host to Bethany College in a PAC match. Kick-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. at UPMC Field.
