Women’s Soccer Falls 2-0 at Franciscan

STEUBENVILLE, OHIO - The Saint Vincent women's soccer team traveled to Franciscan Saturday for a PAC match. Franciscan blanked the Bearcats by a 2-0 score.

Both defenses stood strong for the first 20 minutes of the game, before Franciscan looked to take control.  The Barons'  Tania Davidson found the back of the net at the 24:38 mark to give Franciscan a 1-0 lead.

The Bearcats had some opportunities to score in the first half, but they couldn't find the back of the net. The Barons had most of the chances, though, as they outshot the Bearcats 9-5 in the half.

In the second half it was more of an even game, with both teams compiling nine shots. The Barons scored the lone goal of the half, with Kaitrin O'Leary finding the net eight minutes into the half to give Franciscan a 2-0 lead.

The Franciscan defense held strong over the remainder of the game to close out the 2-0 win.

Tanisha Grewal tallied six shots for the Bearcats, two of them being on goal. Hannah Irvine and Lucia Johnson each had two shots as well. Kendall Castor and Maggie Perkins split the game in the net for SVC, with Perkins making two saves and Castor five.

The Bearcats will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 12, when they host Bethany for a PAC match. Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. at UPMC Field.
