Despite their early lead and late efforts, Saint Vincent fell to Westminster College at UPMC Field this afternoon by a score of 9-8 in triple overtime.
Saint Vincent (2-1) came out of the gate with an early 4-3 lead into the 2nd period. The game was then controlled by Westminster (2-1) as the Bearcats took a penalty leading to two Titan goals with man-up opportunities in the second to take the 5-4 lead.
Westminster looked to pile it on, leading 7-4 at the beginning of the third. The Bearcats battled back to take a 8-7 lead off a
Nate Salera goal, but Saint Vincent could not stop the Titans who tied the game to send this match into extra periods. Both teams battled through three overtimes when Westminster ended the game at the 1:36 mark to claim the one-goal victory (9-8).
The Bearcats were led in scoring by
Andrew Coholich who finished the day with two goals and
Caleb Hawkins and
Nate Salera who each had a goal and an assist.
Caleb Bouch was in the cage for the bearcats and finished the game with 12 saves. Westminster was led by Ryan Greer and Payton Waight who each finished the contest with three points. The Titans were backed by Connor Doyle who made 16 saves.
Saint Vincent is in action this Wednesday, March 17 at 4:00 p.m. as they take on Bethany College.
