Saint Vincent comes up short at CMU

The Saint Vincent men's soccer traveled to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for a non-conference match with Carnegie Mellon University. The Bearcats were defeated by Tartans, 3-2.

Saint Vincent was the benefit of a communication error by the Tartans that led to an own goal just 18 seconds into the game to give the Bearcats an early 1-0 lead. Carnegie Mellon responded rather quickly, scoring at the 1:57 mark of the first half tying the game at one a piece.

The high scoring first half continued as Bradley Bair found the back of the net for SVC, breaking the even score and making it 2-1. A little over five minutes after Bair's goal for Saint Vincent, the Tartans responded with a goal of their own tying the game at two.

The game would not remain tied for long as CMU scored at the 36-minute mark of the first half, giving them their first lead of the game at 3-2, and held that the score going into the break.

The Tartans out shot the Bearcats 12-2 in the first half. Carnegie Mellon also compiled five corner kicks compared to Saint Vincent who had zero in the half.

Unlike the first half, neither team found the back of the net in the second half. Both teams had a few opportunities to score, but neither were able to capitalize, making the final score 3-2.

Saint Vincent goalkeeper Zachary Gibbons compiled five saves in the game. The Tartans had nine corner kicks compared to just two for the Bearcats. Carnegie Mellon also out shot Saint Vincent 15-3.
