The Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team traveled to Waynesburg University for a non-conference showdown. The Bearcats scored in bunches to cruise by the Yellow Jackets, 18-4.
Just 44 seconds into the contest,
Joey Smith scored the first goal for Saint Vincent (2-2).
Cat Votovich,
Rachel Thatcher,
Margaret Edwards and
Kaylee Bandow followed with goals of their own as Smith assisted on each one.
Waynesburg (0-3) scored at the 15:28 mark of the first but trailed by four (5-1).Â
The Bearcats scored the next three goals as
Hannah-Marie Starner and
Emily Taylor added their names to the score sheet.
The Yellow Jackets added two more goals but SVC scored four times in-between to lead at the half, 12-3.
In the second half, Saint Vincent out scored Waynesburg 6-1 to win by the 14-goal margin. SVC recorded 32 shots on goal compared to 12 for the Yellow Jackets.
Smith led both squads in goals (3), assists (6) and points (9). Bandow, Edwards, Starner, Thatcher and
Lucy Volna each scored twice.
Saint Vincent returns to UPMC Field on Sunday, March 28 to face Chatham University. Start time is 3 p.m.
