The Saint Vincent men's soccer team hosted Franciscan University in a hard-fought battle and secured their second conference win by defeating the Barons, 2-1.
Â
Franciscan (1-3, 1-3) picked up their first and only goal of the game at the 35-minute mark by Sebastian Koehler. Two minutes later, the Barons fouled the Bearcats in the box as Saint Vincent (2-2, 2-1) was awarded a penalty kcik.Â
Roberto Fulweiler lined up the kick and buried the ball into the lower left corner to tie the game.
Â
SVC went into halftime tied with the Barons 1-1.
Â
In the second half, it was an even battle between Franciscan University and Saint Vincent College, until the 58-minute mark when
Cory Northrup smoothly dribbled the ball through midfield and found an open
Joel Quiroz Mansilla. Quiroz Mansilla finished the play off with a bending shot that found the top left corner.
Â
Both teams had several opportunities to score but both goalies
Shane Piper and Brian Gaughan denied the chances. The Barons had a late push in half by controlling the ball in the Bearcats end. However, SVC stood its ground and held on for the 2-1 victory.
Piper made three saves in the victory, playing all 90 minutes.
 Â
The Bearcats continue their aggressive play on the road against Bethany College on Wednesday March 31 at 5 p.m.
