The Saint Vincent College softball team welcomed Chatham University for a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader. The Bearcats split with the Cougars, winning game one 14-6 but fell in game two, 5-1.
Game 1 - Saint Vincent 14, Chatham 6 (5 Inn.)
Chatham opened the game with two singles and two doubles to score three runs. Chatham held the 3-0 lead until the bottom of the second.
Kaylee Ludwick opened the scoring in the second with a home run over the left field fence as
Mallory Halleck scored as well. From there, Saint Vincent never looked back. The Bearcats collected nine hits to score seven additional runs to lead 9-3 going into the third.
In the third, the Cougars added another run off a solo shot over right center but still trailed 9-4. In the bottom half of the inning,
Shae Robson hit her second triple of the game to score
Hanna Pavsek. Robson then scored on a passed ball to make the lead seven (11-4).
In the next half inning, Chatham scored two runs on three hits to cut the deficit to five. The score remained the same (11-6) until the bottom of the fifth.
After another triple by Robson,
Jessica Persin singled through the right side to score the senior outfielder.
Abbey Ginter reached on a single then Halleck singled through the middle as Persin scored and Ginter moved up to third.Â
An errant throw on a pick off attempt by the catcher, Ginter was able to score close out the game, 14-6.
Robson and Halleck went 3-4 with five other Bearcats collecting two hits.
Haley Bicko pitched all five innings, allowing six runs on nine hits with three strikeouts.
Game 2 - Chatham 5, Saint Vincent 1
Both teams were quiet in the first inning but it was the Cougars who scored first to take a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the second, Halleck responded with a leadoff homer to center field.
Chatham regained the lead in the third and added another in the fourth to lead 3-1.
In the bottom of the sixth, Saint Vincent had its best chance to score more runs with the bases loaded with one out. Unfortunately, the Bearcats were unable to capitalize.
The Cougars added two more runs in the sevent to win the game by four runs (5-1).
Jessica LaPorte pitched the entire game allowing five runs (four earned) on three hits and striking out five.
Saint Vincent (9-10-1, 3-3) remains home as Westminster College visits campus for a PAC doubleheader. Start time is 3:30 p.m.
