The Saint Vincent College men's lacrosse team returned to play on the road against Westminster College. The Bearcats defeated the Titans, 14-9.
Westminster (6-2, 1-1) opened the scoring just 25 seconds into the contest and followed with another goal 31 seconds later. Trailing 2-0,
Alec Richards got Saint Vincent (6-2, 1-1) on the board.
Caleb Hawkins tied the game on a man-up situation off a pass from
Jacob Visalli. The Titans scored two more goals to hold a 4-2 edge going to the second.
To open the second quarter, Visalli scored with an assist to
Matthew Cassidy to pull within one.
Zack Novelli and
Max Schuler followed with goals of their own to give the Bearcats a 5-4 lead. Westminster tied the game at five but goals from Hawkins, Novelli and
Mitchell Bachman put SVC ahead 8-5 as the game went to the half.
The third's only goal was from Cassidy to make Saint Vincent's advantage four. In the fourth,
Jordan Billet scored two man-up goals as Richards assisted on both. The Titans out scored the Bearcats 4-3 but SVC held on for the five-goal victory.
Six different Bearcats finished with two goals while Richards lead both teams with six points and four assists.
Ethan Cavin led the defense with three caused turnovers and seven ground balls.
Brandon Martin picked up the win in the net, playing all 60 minutes making seven saves.
Saint Vincent returns to UPMC Field on Sunday, April 18 against Washington & Jefferson. Start time is 1 p.m.
