SVC falls by five on the road


The Saint Vincent College women's lacrosse team traveled faced the Chatham University Cougars in a Presidents' Athletic Conference road contest. The Bearcats fell to the Cougars, 13-8

Rachel Thatcher and Saint Vincent (5-5, 2-3) scored the first goal 54 seconds into the first. Kaylee Bandow picked up an assist on the play.

Chatham (7-2, 5-1) evened the game at the 26:06 mark. Goals by Joey Smith and Lucy Volna answered with goals of their own to give the Bearcats a 3-1 lead.

The Cougars followed with four-straight goals to grasp a 5-3 edge. Bridget Doyle scored with eight seconds left in the first half to cut the deficit in half and trail by one (5-4) at the break.

Volna tied the game 1:54 into the second half. However, Chatham quickly regained the lead with three goals within 1:25 to lead 8-5.

Volna and Thatcher found the back of the net to pull within one (8-7). The Cougars responded with a goal nine seconds after Thatcher's to extend their lead to 9-7.

Smith scored her second goal of the night but Chatham scored two more to regain a three-goal advantage, 11-8 with 13:50 remaining in regulation.

The Cougars added two more goals to win by the five-goal margin.

Volna recorded a hat trick while Smith and Thatcher finished with two goals. Kyra Lipetzky played all 60 minutes in goal and made 11 saves.

Saint Vincent wraps up the regular season on Saturday, April 24 against Thiel College. Start time is 3 p.m.
