The Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team played the first Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup of the season against Waynesburg University at UPMC Field. The Bearcats scored in bunches to cruise by the Yellow Jackets, 21-5.
Just 18 seconds into the contest,
Joey Smith scored the first goal for Saint Vincent (4-2, 1-0),
Cat Votovich,
Lucy Volna and
Claire Crater followed with goals of their own as Smith assisted on two of those goals.
Waynesburg (0-5, 0-1) scored at the 19:29 mark of the first but trailed by five (6-1).Â
The Bearcats scored seven of the next eight goals as Hannah Marie-Starner,
Bridget Doyle and
Margaret Edwards added their names to the score sheet.
The Yellow Jackets added two more goals but SVC took the 14-3 edge into halftime.
In the second half, Saint Vincent outscored Waynesburg 7-2 to win by the 16-goal margin. SVC recorded 35 shots on goal compared to 15 for the Yellow Jackets.
Smith led both squads in goals (3), assists (4) and points (7). The trio of Volna, Crater and Edwards added three goals apiece.
Saint Vincent heads to Steubenville, Ohio on Thursday, April 8 to face Franciscan University. Start time is 4 p.m.
