Women's Lacrosse travels to Steubenville, Ohio


The Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team traveled to Steubenville, Ohio to face Franciscan in a Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup. The Bearcats scoring eight goals in the second half was not enough as they were defeated by the Barons, 18-13.

Franciscan scored the first goal of the contest at the 25:52 mark of the first half. The Barons (3-1, 2-0) added two more to their total, leading 3-0. Saint Vincent answered at the 18 minute mark as Lucy Volna scored the first goal for Saint Vincent (4-3, 1-1). Kaylee Bandow added the next two for the Bearcats, both assists credited to Joey Smith.
 
The game was tied at three a piece at the 12:38 mark. Both SVC and Franciscan went back and forth scoring in the next 12 minutes as Hannah-Marie Starner and Bridget Doyle each tallied a goal for the Bearcats. The Barons had the 6-5 advantage at halftime.

In the second half, Franciscan outscored Saint Vincent 12-8. The game was called with nine minutes left to play due to lightning. The Barons won the PAC contest by the five-goal margin, 18-13. Franciscan recorded 35 shots on goal compared to 26 for SVC.

Smith led Saint Vincent in goals (3), assists (3) and points (6). The trio of Doyle, Starner and Bandow added two goals apiece.

Saint Vincent heads to West Virginia on Saturday, April 10 to face Bethany. Start time is 1 p.m.
