The Saint Vincent softball team traveled to Steubenville, Ohio for a double header with Franciscan University. The Bearcats split the doubleheader, winning game one 5-0 and losing game two 8-7.

Game 1 - Saint Vincent 5, Franciscan 0
The game started out in an all-out pitcher's duel. The first six batters of the game for Saint Vincent were set down in order. The Bearcats first base runner did not come until the top of the third when
Olivia Persin led the inning off with a single, but it did not amount to any runs.

Saint Vincent retired Franciscan in order in the bottom half of the third, and the game headed to the fourth inning.

After a lineout to start the top half of the fourth,
Kelsey Tobin reached on an infield single to short stop. After a fielder's choice,
Kaylee Ludwick stepped up and ripped a two-run homer, giving the Bearcats a 2-0 lead.

Both Saint Vincent and Franciscan held each other scoreless for the fifth and sixth innings, as the Bearcats maintained a 2-0 lead.

In the seventh, Saint Vincent added three insurance runs.
Abbey Ginter came up to the plate with two runners on and put the ball in play, reaching on an error, scoring
Shae Robson and Hannah Pavsek (4-0). That's all the Bearcats needed as they shut the Barons down and won game one 5-0.

Pavsek led the Bearcats with two hits in the game. Ludwick also had a hit and two RBI's.
Haley Bicko pitched a complete game, giving up no runs and just three hits, and struck out one in the win.

Game 2 - Franciscan 8, Saint Vincent 7
The Bearcats picked up where they left off in game one and got on the board first, as Robson led the game off with a triple, and two batters later she crossed the plate on a Ginter RBI single to right field (1-0). That is all the Bearcats got in the inning as the next two batters were retired.

After retiring the side in order in the top of the second, Franciscan responded back with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning giving them the lead at 2-1.

Saint Vincent answered quickly in the top of the third, putting up a five spot. First, Tobin singled and Pavsek scored on error by the third baseman, evening up the score 2-2. Then, Ludwick reached on a fielder's choice which scored Robson, giving the Bearcats the lead 3-2.

Jessica Persin came up to bat and had a huge two RBI single, scoring
Taylor LaVale and Tobin, increasing the Bearcat lead to 5-2. The Bearcats weren't done yet, as
Monica Gourley hit an infield single which scored Ludwick (6-2).

The Barons responded in the bottom half of the third with three runs of their own, cutting the Saint Vincent lead to 6-5. The Bearcats answered right back in the top of the fourth as LaVale had an RBI single, which scored Robson, increasing the Bearcats lead to 7-5.
Franciscan plated another run in the bottom of the fourth making it a one run game again (7-6). The Barons held then held the Bearcats scoreless in the fifth and sixth innings.

In the bottom half of the sixth, the Barons plated two runs giving them the lead back (8-7) and they shut the door on the Bearcats in the seventh and won game two by a score of 8-7.

Robson led the Bearcats with three hits at the top of the lineup. Tobin, Ginter, Jess Persin, Gourley, Pavsek all had two hits in the game. Gourley took the loss on the mound for the Bearcats.

The Bearcats return home and host Chatham in an afternoon twin bill on Sunday, April 11. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
