LATROBE, PA - The Saint Vincent men's tennis team improved to 3-0 on the fall campaign after sweeping a pair of matches at its 2021 home invitational.
In the opening match of the day, the Bearcats downed Waynesburg 6-3, before topping Penn State-Altoona 5-0 in the abbreviated nightcap.

In the day's first match, the Bearcats began by going 2-1 in doubles play.
Evan Ray and
Aaron Kuhn picked up SVC's first win of the day with a quick 8-0 decision in the #3 spot. After
Jack Citrone and
Josh Boland were edged in a tight 8-6 match at the #2 spot, the Bearcats' top pairing of
David Lynn and
Mauricio Sanchez put the hosts back in front with an 8-5 victory.
In singles play, Lynn and Ray picked up wins via injury retirement, before Citrone clinched the match victory with a 6-0, 6-0 decision at the #5 spot. The team's sixth win came in the #6 spot, with
Sam Butler earning a 6-2, 6-4 victory.
SAINT VINCENT 5, PENN STATE-ALTOONA 0
The Bearcats built upon their momentum in their second match of the afternoon, which began with three more SVC doubles wins. Lynn and Sanchez gave the Bearcats a 1-0 advantage with an 8-3 victory, before the #3 pairing of Butler and
Joey Bujdos winning by an 8-2 score. Kuhn and Boland would then complete SVC's doubles sweep with an 8-4 win.
Saint Vincent would then need just two more wins to win the match, and received them quickly, with Linn winning 6-0, 6-0 in the #1 spot and Sanchez earning a 6-1, 6-3 victory in the #2 spot to clinch the victory for the Bearcats. Ray, Citrone, Kuhn and
Brennen Novotney were each leading their respective singles contests before Sanchez's win ended the match.
After going a combined 4-0 on the afternoon, Lynn was named the Saint Vincent Invitational's Most Oustanding Player.
WIth the two wins, SVC moves to a perfect 3-0 on the fall season, while head coach
Brian Niemiec has now presided over 50 victories in his career, with 33 as head coach of the Bearcat men's squad and 17 at the helm of the women's team.
The Bearcats will now have a quick turnaround before returning to action on Sunday, when they face Mount Aloysius in a 1:30 p.m. match on the SVC Courts.Â
