LATROBE - The Saint Vincent men's tennis team edged out defending Allegheny Mountain College Conference champions Mt. Aloysius by a score of 5-2. With the Mounties short handed, the match was contested as a best-of-7 format.
Evan Ray and Joey Bujdos claimed an 8-1 win at second doubles for the Bearcats. Mt. Aloysius' top pairing edged out Josh Boland and Aaron Kuhn, 8-5.
The Mounties grabbed the first singles point in the five slot to go up 2-1 in the match. From that point on it was all Saint Vincent.
Jack Citrone rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at fourth singles followed up by a David Lynn win at the top flight, 6-2, 6-2. With the deciding point up for grabs Mauricio Sanchez stepped up with a 6-2, 7-6(4) win in the two hole to clinch the match. Sam Butler was the last to finish, as he slugged his way to a 7-6(4), 7-5 win at fourth singles.
The Bearcats improve to 4-0 on the year and will be back in action for their fall finale next Sunday, September 19, when they face off against Capital University. First serve is slated for 1 pm.
