Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Bearcats defeated by crosstown foe

GREENSBURG, PA – The Saint Vincent women's volleyball team was unable to complete the season sweep of crosstown, non-conference rival Pitt-Greensburg, falling to the Bobcats 3-0 on the road.

Set scores were 25-20, 25-18 and 25-19.

The Bearcat offense was paced by Luciana Polk, who tallied 10 kills, while Kaelyn Staples added six putaways. Polk also added eight digs while Madie Marsico tallied six.

In the evening's first set, both Saint Vincent and Pitt-Greensburg went back and forth in terms of scoring. The Bobcats' lead would eventually stretch to 11-8, before SVC added five consecutive points, four of the five credited to Sara Ellis. Moments later, the Bobcats added five straight points of their own, ending the set on a 14-7 run to close out the 25-20 win.

Set two was tight early on, with the teams trading ties twice, before Pitt-Greensburg posted five straight points to open up a 14-10 lead. The Bobcat lead would hover between three and four points over the next several serves, before Carly Augustine smashed a kill and Caitlyn Figuly added a block, bringing the Bearcat lead within two, 18-16. The Bobcats would storm back to end the frame on an 7-2 run for a 25-18 set win.

The third set followed a similar start as the second, with neither team holding more than a two-point advantage early on. Leading 7-4, the Bearcats and Bobcats remained even until Pitt-Greensburg tallied four straight points to take the 16-12 edge over Saint Vincent. The lead would eventually stretch to 19-16, but it was the Bearcats' turn to answer with a run of their own, tallying three of the next four points to trail by one 20-19. The final 5-0 surge was too much for SVC to overcome, however, as Pitt-Greensburg pulled away down the stretch to close out the contest by a 25-19 score.

Pitt-Greensburg was led statistically by Emma Halutick who led both sides with a 12-kill, six-dig performance. Teammate Abigail Lescallette added 11 digs, while Taylor Logan dished 28 assists.

Saint Vincent will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 18, traveling to Grove City, Pa. for a Presidents' Athletic Conference tri-match, with the Bearcats playing the host Wolverines at 6 p.m., followed by a match with Bethany at 8 p.m.
