FREDERICK, MD. - Host Hood College scored three unanswered goals over the second half to come back from an early deficit and hand the Bearcat men's soccer team a 3-1 defeat.

Giuseppe Loiacono got the Bearcats off to a strong start, scoring his first career goal just nine minutes into play, off of an assist from
Cory Northrup, to put give the visitors the early 1-0 lead.
The Bearcats looked to add on to their lead, but after a pair of attempts in the 19th minute by Northrup were saved, the game turned into a defensive struggle, with the teams combining for just three shots over the final 25 minutes of the opening stanza, and the score would remain 1-0 at the intermission. Over the first 45 minutes of play, SVC held an 8-7 lead in shots, while each team attempted two corner kicks.
The Blazers came out of the intermission on the attack, tying the game in the 48th minute on a goal by Taj Weems. Hood kept up the attack, out-shooting SVC 7-2 over the next 15 minutes, and took a 2-1 lead in the 65th minute with a goal by Christian Urbina. Hood kept the SVC offense at bay over the final 20-plus minutes of regulation, and put the game away with a goal by Jaylen Poisal with just 1:02 left to account for the final score.
Hood (3-1-1) out-shot SVC 15-2 over the decisive second half and took four of the five second-half corner kicks.
Gibbons started and played the first 83 minutes in goal for SVC (1-5) and tallied five saves, while Northrup led the Bearcats with four shots.
The Bearcats will return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 21, welcoming McDaniel College to the UPMC Turf for a 4 p.m. non-conference match.
