HUNTINGDON, Pa. (Jan. 25)
- The Saint Vincent College men's volleyball team traveled to Huntingdon, Pa. for an evening match against Juniata College. The Bearcats fell to the Eagles in three sets, 3-0.
Set scores were 25-12, 25-14 and 25-18.
Juniata (4-2, 0-0 CVC) opened the match by winning nine of the first 14 points in the first set. Saint Vincent (0-3, 0-0 AMCC) tried to battle back but struggled to overcome the large deficit, with the Eagles claiming a 25-12 set victory.
In the second set, the Bearcats took advantage of three Juniata service errors to jump out to an early 4-2 lead, but the Eagles came back with six straight point to take an 8-4 lead. Another error promptly brought the Bearcats back to within three, 8-5, but Juniata rattled off a 5-0 run to go up 13-5. A kill and an ace by
Matthew Minkin, followed by a kill from
Ethan Kammerer, closed the gap to 15-9, but the Eagles would then out-score SVC 10-5 to close out the set.
Juniata took a quick 10-5 lead to open the third set, before an
Andrew Cassidy kill and a
Matthew Furrer ace pulled SVC to within three at 10-7. The Eagles responded to take a 15-10 lead, and the Bearcats would get no closer, dropping the set by a score of 25-18.
Minkin led the Bearcats with a team-high 12 kills, while
Anthony Ditonto finished with four. Furrer dished out 13 assists, while
Matthew Klasnic tallied seven digs to lead the SVC defense. Ditonto, Kammerer and Minkin each recorded blocks.
The Bearcats will be back in action on Sunday, Jan. 30, hosting a non-conference tri-match with Elizabethtown College and John Jay College beginning at noon.
