GREENVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 12) – The Saint Vincent men's soccer team saw its two-game unbeaten streak snapped with a 1-0 loss at Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Thiel.
The Bearcats (5-5-4, 1-2-3 PAC) looked primed to score early on, tallying four shots on goal over the game's opening six minutes. All four attempts were turned aside, before the Tomcats took a 1-0 lead on an Evan Young goal in the 18th minute.
Saint Vincent continued to control possession throughout the latter stages of the first half, ending the frame with a 7-2 edge in shots, but were unable to find the equalizer.
During an evenly-played second half, Saint Vincent appeared to tie it with a goal off of a corner kick in the 81st minute, but the score was waved off due to a foul. Three minutes later, SVC saw another prime chance to tie it, with
Jose Hurtado splitting the defense and launching a shot from 10 yards out, but it sailed just wide. The Bearcats held the ball for much of the final five minutes in their offensive third, but were unable to muster one last offensive push.
The Bearcats ended the game with a 12-9 advantage in shots, with
Eduardo Richa holding the team lead with three.
Kameron Rock played all 90 minutes in goal and finished with three saves. Thiel's Nick Kristian made eight saves to earn the win in goal.
In a physical match, the two teams were whistled for a combined 23 fouls.
The Bearcats will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 15, traveling to Ohio for a PAC match at Franciscan University.
