GREENVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 12) – The Saint Vincent women's soccer team earned a convincing 4-0 road victory over Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Thiel.
Four different Saint Vincent players scored goals, while six players were credited with at least one point, as the Bearcats upped their record to 6-4-2 overall, and 2-2-2 in the PAC.
The Bearcat offense tallied 24 shots, scoring twice in the final minutes of the first half before adding two more tallies over the second frame. Defensively, SVC limited Thiel to just three shots (two on goal) in earning its sixth clean sheet of the season.
Saint Vincent controlled possession from the start, outshooting Thiel 13-1 over the game's first 33 minutes. The constant barrage finally paid off in the 36
th minute, when a corner kick from
Grace Lamborne found the head of a leaping
Morgan Klingeman, who directed it into the net for her first career goal with 8:29 left in the opening half.
The Bearcats wasted little time in adding onto the lead, cashing in once again off of a corner kick. This time,
Kylie Albertson collected the ball in a scrum in front and blasted it home for her first goal of the year to make it 2-0 with 5:18 remaining until the break.
Over the opening 45 minutes, the Bearcats outshot the Tomcats 15-1 and took all eight corner kicks.
Saint Vincent kept the momentum coming out of halftime, taking a 3-0 lead on
Tanisha Grewal's team-leading sixth goal of the season on a turning, right-footed blast from 15 yards out exactly five minutes into the frame.
The Bearcats closed out the game's scoring with 30:28 left in the game. Following a Thiel throw-in,
Bella Ely gained possession and passed to
Brooke Garman, who scored the first goal of her career to put the Bearcats up 4-0. The SVC defense continued to keep Thiel at bay down the stretch to seal the win.
Madison Arnold started in goal for SVC and made one save in 63 minutes of play, before giving way to
Maggie Perkins, who also recorded one stop over the final 27 minutes.
Eleven different players were credited with a shot for SVC, with Garman firing a game-high five and Grewal and Lamborne four apiece.
Saint Vincent will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 15, traveling to Stuebenville, Ohio, to face conference-leading Franciscan University for a 1 p.m. match.
