OBERLIN, Ohio (Oct. 15) – The Saint Vincent men's cross country team took part in its final regular season tune-up, traveling to northeast Ohio for the 2022 Oberlin College Inter-Regional Rumble.
The Bearcats received a balanced effort, with each of their six runners finishing in the top half of a deep, 300-runner field, to place 13th out of 32 teams with 418 points.
Tim Patterson again led the way for the Bearcats, covering the 8-kilometer course in 25 minutes, 47 seconds, to place 19th overall.
Following the junior standout, Saint Vincent's second through sixth runners were separated by just 38 seconds.
Rookie
Brady Sundin continued his strong freshman campaign by posting a time of 26 minutes, 51 seconds, to place 95th.
Just eight seconds separated SVC's next three finishers, with Joey Bujdos registering a time of 27 minutes, 9 seconds, to place 115th,
Jeremy Capella 27 minutes, 12 seconds (118th) and
Aiden Jackson 27 minutes 20 seconds (126th) to round out the Bearcat scoring five.
Joey Jafarace was also in SVC's main pack, turning in a time of 27 minutes, 29 seconds, to place 138th, while
Matthew Thomas closed out SVC's top seven, turning in a time of 27 minutes, 51 seconds.
Placing five runners in the top 11, Carnegie Mellon won the team title with 50 points, edging second-place Case Western Reserve by 10 points. Enrique Salazar of Manchester placed first individually in a time of 24 minutes, 58 seconds.
Saint Vincent will now have a two-week respite before returning to action on Oct. 29, when the Bearcats play host to the 2022 Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship.
