SVC sweeps day two, finishes 9-1 at Daemen Tournament

The Saint Vincent women's bowling team opened the NCAA portion of its 2022-23 schedule by going 9-1 in the Storm Fall Classic, hosted by Daemen University, in Buffalo, New York.

The team started the two-day event by facing Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference rival Medaille University.  Junior Jackie Koehler threw strikes on her first six shots of the day, en route to a 236 game, helping SVC to a 886-830 victory.  Sophomore Sabine Strickland added a 178.

In game two, the Bearcats struggled from the outset, falling to D'Youville University by a score of 937-770.  Strickland led the scoresheet with a 189 game.

The Bearcats bounced back following that loss, and reeled off three straight wins to end the day.  Against host Daemen, Saint Vincent trailed by 40 pins midway through the game, but freshman Abby Justice finished her game with seven consecutive strikes to lead the comeback, finishing with a 232.  Koehler added a 192, while Strickland had a 172 game, as the Bearcats defeated the Wildcats by a score of 879-848.

In game four, Saint Vincent fell behind Pitt-Bradford early, but pulled away late for an 883-794 win.  Strickland (203), Justice (194) and Koehler (183) led the way.

Game five brought a rematch against D'Youville, and the team avenged the loss earlier in the day by jumping out to a 70-pin lead after just three frames.  From there, the Bearcats cruised to an 896-832 win.  Mercedes Belch and Justice each finished with a 189, while Koehler added a 182.

Koehler finished the day sixth overall among the field with a total score of 910 (182 average), while Strickland was 7th (908, 181.6).  Justice, who bowled four of the five games, averaged 192.8.

On day two, the format switched to Baker team games, and the Bearcats swept all five rounds.

Senior Olivia Emmonds opened the day with seven strikes in a row, leading the team to an 872-756 win over Penn State-Behrend.  Up next for the Bearcats was Walsh University, and SVC threw games of 180 and 212 to jump to an early lead, going on to win by a score of 893-835.

In the third round, SVC only led Hilbert by 7 pins after one game (177-170) but pulled away to a 238-pin win after five, 874-636.  In round four, SVC again faced host Daemen, and put together its best five-game set of the day, shooting games of 189-193-166-223-153 for a 924-839 victory.

The last match of the weekend was the position round, and SVC again faced Daemen, defeating them for the third time in two days, 855-815 to finish the tournament with a 9-1 record.

On day two, Emmonds led the way with a per-frame average of 21.32, a game equivalent of 213.2.  Monique Koehler (178.3)  Jackie Koehler (177.3), Strickland (172.9), and Kaitlyn Morrison (172.3) rounded out the top-five for the Bearcats.
