Bison edge Bearcats in PAC matchup

LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 8) – The Saint Vincent women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Bethany College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match at UPMC Field.

The loss drops Saint Vincent's record to 5-4-2 overall and 1-2-2 in the PAC, while the Bison improve to 8-2-4 overall and 2-2-1 in league play.

In a defensive-themed first half, Bethany scored the lone goal in the 28th minute, with Monica Bird finding the net off of an assist from Brooke Filecki.

Bethany held the advantage in possession throughout the first half, managing 7 corner kicks, but the SVC defense limited the Bison to just 5 total shots and 3 shots on goal over the opening 45 minutes. Madison Arnold made a pair of saves in the opening stanza for SVC.

The Bearcat defense held strong as Bethany took four shots and four corner kicks in the opening 10 minutes of the second half. As regulation time wound down, the Bearcats would control possession and see their scoring chances increase down the stretch, but were unable to find the equalizer.

Arnold, the reigning PAC Defensive Player of the Week, would finish with six saves on the afternoon, as Bethany ended the game with an 11-6 advantage in shots. Five players combined for SVC's six attempts, with Jessica Persin totaling two shots, including one on goal.

Saint Vincent will now take to the road for a pair of conference battles, beginning with a 5 p.m. meeting at Thiel College on Wednesday, Oct. 12.
