STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (Oct. 8) – The Saint Vincent women's swimming team won 10 of 11 events to open up the 2022-23 season in fine fashion with a 150-50 victory at Franciscan University.
The Bearcats started the afternoon by placing both first and second in the 200 medley relay. The foursome of
Abby Leskovansky,
Sara Basala,
Lauren Connors and
Cara Luallen won the event in 1:59.87, just ahead of the quartet of
Julia Mikita,
Emma Martz,
Katie Kozy and
Chloe Fontanazza, which took second in 2:03.68.
In the first distance event of the season, the 1,000 freestyle, the Bearcats swept the top three spots, with
Emma Morgan winning in 12:42.64,
Elise Debrot placing second in 13:08.05 and
Amanda Pugliano third in 13:54.93.
The Bearcats owned the top two spots in the 200 freestyle, with
Sarah Alexander winning in 2:11.76 and Fontanazza taking second in 2:16.82, while
Katie Kozy was victorious in the 50 freestyle in 25.91 seconds.
Erica Steele was victorious in the 200 individual medley with a mark of 2:26.30, before the Bearcats took the top two spots in the 100 butterfly, with Connors winning in 1:01.99 and
Elise Debrot placing second in 1:11.03.
Kozy touched first in the 100 freestyle in 58.85 seconds, before the Bearcats took the top two spots in the 100 backstroke, with Martz winning in 1:05.59 and Leskovansky taking second in 1:06.88.
The 500 freestyle saw Alexander earn her second victory of the afternoon, posting a time of 5:56.57, with Basala taking second in 6:19.70.
Lily Holsey finished second (1:19.29) and Marz third (1:19.51) in the 100 breaststroke, before the Bearcats closed the day by sweeping the 200 freestyle relay. Steele, Connors, Luallen and Leskovansky teamed up to win in 1:45.23, with Mikita, Morgan, Basala and
Elyssa Bognar earning runner-up honors in 1:59.39.
The Bearcats will now have a two-week respite before returning to action on Saturday, Oct. 22, when they host Penn State-Altoona in a 1 p.m. matchup in the Resnik Pool.
