LATROBE, Pa (Nov. 11)- The Saint Vincent men's swimming team lost a tight PAC matchup against Grove City on Friday night, falling by a final score of 142-120.
Kris Smith led the way for the Bearcats, finishing in first in the 200-yard freestyle, the 100-yard-freestyle, and the 100-yard butterfly events. In the 200-yard freestyle, Smith finished with a time of 1:50.50, three seconds better than the second-place finisher Jacob Vannoy of Grove City.
In the 100-yard freestyle, Smith swam a time of 49.91, just edging out Nathan Beukema of Grove City who seven tenths of a second behind Smith. Smith's final first place finish of the evening was in the 100-yard butterfly event, where he finished with a time of 54.48 seconds.
Smith was also apart of the 200-yard freestyle relay team that finished in second place. Alex Leskovansky, Colin Spehar, and Jacob Dzurica teamed up with Smith to finish with a time of 1:29.77, less than one second behind the winning quartet from Grove City.
Leskovansky also recorded a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle even that Smith had one. Leskovansky posted a time of 1:56.93 in the event. He also recorded another third-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle event, posting a time 50.80.
Spehar had a solid night as well. Along with his first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay, he also recorded a win in the 200-yard butterfly event and a third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly. In the 200-yard butterfly victory, he swam a time of 2:08.02, seven seconds faster than Jacob Vannoy of Grove City who finished in second place.
Dzurica won the 50-yard freestyle, while also finishing in first in the 200-yard backstroke, and also placed second in the 100-yard backstroke event.
Nicholas Jackman was solid for the Bearcats as well. Jackman won the 1000-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle. In the 1000-yard he finished with a time of 10:19.13 and in the 500-yard freestyle event, he swam a time of 5:03.73.
Saint Vincent returns to action on Friday, November 18, when they travel to Canton, Ohio for the Malone University Invitational. The meet will take place from November 18 through Sunday, November 20.
