LATROBE, Pa (Nov. 11)- The Saint Vincent women's swimming team hosted Grove City for a President's Athletic Conference meet on Friday night. The Bearcats lost the meet by a score of 158-122.
Erica Steele led the way for the Bearcats with three first place finishes on the night. Steele won the 50-yard freestyle event, finishing with a time of 24.86. She also placed first in the 100-yard freestyle event, finishing with a time of 55.51 seconds.
Steele was also a part of the first place 200-yard freestyle relay team, teaming up with Emma Martz, Abby Leskovansky, and
Katie Kozy.
Lauren Connors also had a solid night for Saint Vincent. Connors teamed up with
Sara Basala, Steele, and Kozy to win the 200-yard medley relay for the Bearcats.
She also won the 100-yard backstroke, finishing with a time of 1:00.68, three seconds better than Rachel Grubbs of Grove City who finished in second place. Connors won the 200-yard backstroke event as well, finishing with a time of 2:16.60. Kozy on the other hand also recorded a second place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, recording a time of 1:02.55.
Along with her first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, Basala recorded a win in the 100-yard backstroke event. She edged Sarah Janicki of Grove City to score the event win, finishing with a time of 1:13.39.
Martz recorded a second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke along with her first place in the 200-yard freestyle relay. She finished with a time of 2:05.03, just over a half second behind Annika Albright of Grove City who won the event.
Basala won the 100-yard breaststroke event for SVC as well. Basala finished with a time of 1:13.39 to win the even ahead of Sarah Janicki of the Wolverines. She also finished third in the 200-yard breaststroke finishing with a time of 2:43.81.
The Bearcats return to action on Friday, November 18, when they travel to Canton, Ohio for the Malone University Invitational. The meet will take place from November 18 through Sunday, November 20.
