Women's Swimming breezes past W&J

LATROBE, Pa (Dec. 3)- The Saint Vincent women's swimming team played host to Washington and Jefferson in a PAC matchup at Resnik Pool, where the Bearcats won convincingly by a final score of 205-36.
 
Saint Vincent had a strong showing, winning 13 of the 14 events on the afternoon. Abby Leskovansky had a strong afternoon for the Bearcats. Leskovansky finished first in the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke events. In the 200-yard freestyle she finished with a time of 2:06.91 and in the backstroke, she swam a time of 2:27.10, three-seconds better than Amanda Graves of W&J who finished in second place.
 
Erica Steele also had a big day for SVC. Steele recorded first-place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke, 500-yard freestyle, and 200-yard IM. In the backstroke she finished with a time of 1:05.82, in the freestyle she finished with a time of 5:37.88, and in the IM, she finished with a time of 2:19.14.
 
Lauren Connors was strong for the Bearcats as well. Connors picked up first place finishes in the 200-yard butterfly, 200-yard breaststroke, and was a member of the 200-yard freestyle relay team that finished in first place. Connors swam a time of 2:25.65 in the butterfly, which was 17 seconds quicker than the second-place finisher. In the 200-yard breaststroke she finished with a time of 2:49.95, ten seconds faster than the second-place finisher.
 
Emma Morgan, Maddy Cassidy, Emma Martz, and Julia Mikita all earned first-place finishes. Morgan won the 1000-yard freestyle, finishing five seconds ahead of Taylor Newton of W&J. Cassidy finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing with a time of 1:13.92, ten seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Martz won the 50-yard freestyle event and Mikita won the 100-yard butterfly finishing with a time of 1:10.01, just ahead of her teammate Brooke Himich who finished in second place.
 
The Bearcats won both relay events as well. Sarah Alexander, Lily Holsey, and Katie Kozy teamed up to win the 200-yard medley relay. They finished just ahead of another group of Bearcats, including Callysta Fontanazza, Elise Debrot, and Cara Luallen. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, a team of Kozy, Martz, Connors, and Luallen took home the win for SVC, finishing with a time of 1:44.68.
 
The meet against the Presidents was the last meet the Bearcats will compete in until after Christmas break. Saint Vincent returns to action on Saturday, January 14 when they travel to Pittsburgh, PA to take on the Chatham Cougars. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
