The Saint Vincent women's bowling team, entering the tournament as the #1 seed, opened play in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Championships with a decisive 2-0 sweep over Penn State-Behrend.
The Lions, seeded #4, advanced to meet Saint Vincent by defeating #5 La Roche by a 2-1 decision in the first round of the three-day tournament, while the Bearcats enjoyed a first-round bye.
Using the "mega-match" format, the first point was won via a traditional team game. The Bearcats pulled away to a 921-750 victory, with sophomore twins
Jackie Koehler (237) and
Monique Koehler (201) leading the way.Â
Jessica Guesman added a 169.
The second point was determined through a five-game Baker team game total. SVC opened a 102-pin lead through four games, then threw their best game of the day with a 193 in game five, en route to an 811-642 win.
The Bearcats will advance in the winners bracket of the double-elimination tournament on Saturday at 9:30AM, facing #2-seed Medaille College. Medaille advanced with a 2-0 win over #3-seed Pitt-Bradford. Pitt-Bradford and Penn State-Behrend will square off in an elimination match on Saturday morning.
Live video of the SVC/Medaille match will be available on the Saint Vincent College Bowling Facebook page starting at 9:30.Â
