GREENSBURG, Pa. (April 1) - The Saint Vincent men's tennis team picked up its third straight victory with a 7-2 decision over Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Geneva at the Greensburg Racquet Club.
The Bearcats move to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in the PAC, while the Golden Tornadoes fall to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in league play.
Saint Vincent jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play. The #3 doubles pairing of
Aaron Kuhn and
Matthew Sadusky were first off the court after picking up an 8-0 win, before
Jon Oskin and
Josh Boland teamed up for an 8-3 win in the second doubles spot.
David Lynn and
Mauricio Sanchez dropped a tight 8-6 decision in the #1 doubles position.
Oskin gave the Bearcats a 3-1 lead with a 6-2, 6-1 win at #1 singles, before the #6 singles match saw
Evan Ray earn a 6-2, 6-2 win.
Jack Citrone clinched the match win for the Bearcats with a 6-2, 6-2 decision at the #5 singles spot.
In a match that spanned more than two hours, Lynn dropped a very competitive bout in the #1 singles spot by a 7-5, 7-5 score, before
Matthew Sadusky closed out the match with a 7-5, 7-6 (8) victory at #4 singles.
Prior to the match, Rev. Paul R. Taylor, O.S.B., Saint Vincent College president, presided over a ceremony of remembrance for longtime head tennis coach Enrico Campi, who passed away on March 31, 2017. The ceremony was attended by Campi's family and a number of Bearcat men's tennis alumni. Coach Campi presided over the Bearcats for 33 seasons.
Saint Vincent is scheduled to return to action on Sunday, April 3, with a 1 p.m. non-conference match against visiting Penn State-Behrend on the SVC Courts.
