WHEELING, W.Va. (April 9) – The Saint Vincent men's tennis team suffered its first Presidents' Athletic Conference defeat of the season, falling 5-4 to Franciscan University in a tight match at the Wheeling Indoor Tennis Center.
The Bearcats (7-4, 2-1 PAC) dropped three tightly contested doubles matches to fall behind 3-0. SVC's #3 doubles tandem of
Matthew Sadusky and
Aaron Kuhn were defeated 8-6, before the pairing of
Josh Boland and
Jon Oskin were defeated 8-7 (7-4) in a marathon, back-and-forth battle at the #3 spot.
The Barons took the #2 singles match to open up a 4-0 lead, but SVC's
Mauricio Sanchez came through with a 6-0, 6-2 win in the #3 singles spot to give the Bearcats their first victory of the day.
Evan Ray then pulled SVC to within 4-2 with a 6-3, 6-2 win in the #6 spot, while
David Lynn was victorious 6-1, 6-4 at #1 singles and
Jack Citrone won 6-4, 6-2 in the number-two position.
In the decisive #4 spot, Sadusky won the opening set 6-3, but fell 6-1 in the second set and 10-8 in the tiebreak set.
The Bearcats will have a quick turnaround, as they will return to action on Sunday, April 10, with a 1 p.m. Senior Day match against Penn State-Behrend at the SVC Courts.
