Bearcats face Barons in PAC matchup

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (April 2) - The Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team was defeated 22-9 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference road matchup at Franciscan University.
 
In the first quarter, The Barons got off to a hot start, taking an early 2-0 lead in the game's first minute. The Bearcats answered the hot start, as Maggie Edwards found the back of the net, on a pass from Joey Smith, to cut the Baron lead to 2-1. After the Barons took a 3-1 lead, SVC came right back again on a goal by Bridget Doyle to make it a one-goal game with 7:04 left in the quarter.

The Barons went on to score the next three goals as well to open the game up, taking a 6-2 lead with 2:34 left, but SVC's Kaylee Bandow answered with a score to cut the lead in half. The Barons ended the first quarter in a flurry, scoring twice in the final 80 seconds to up their advantage to 8-3.
 
It was all Franciscan in the second quarter, outscoring Saint Vincent 5-1 in the quarter to take a 13-4 lead into halftime. Doyle scored the lone goal for the Bearcats in the quarter, which was her second of the game.
 
The Barons continued on the attack after the halftime break, outscoring SVC 5-2 in the third frame to carry an 18-6 lead into the final quarter. The Bearcat goals came from Smith and Rachel Thatcher.
 
In the fourth quarter, play was even, but the Bearcats were unable to cut into the deficit, as the teams traded goals over the final frame. Bandow scored twice in the quarter and Emily Taylor scored once.
 
Bandow finished the day with a hat trick for the Bearcats while also picking up two ground balls. Doyle finished with two goals and one assist. Smith, Taylor, Edwards and Thatcher all had a goal in the game for Saint Vincent as well. Along with her two-point day, Edwards led SVC's defense with three caused turnovers, while Bandow led her team with eight draw controls. 
 
Juliana Tamberllini made seven saves in net in the loss for the Bearcats.
 
The Bearcats will be back in action on Monday, April 4, when they travel to Waynesburg for a PAC matchup with the Yellow Jackets. Opening draw is scheduled for 6 p.m.
