LATROBE, Pa. (April 27) - The Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team was defeated 17-7 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup between foe Washington and Jefferson.

In the first quarter, Saint Vincent tallied the first goal in the opening three minutes as
Hannah-Marie Starner found the net, with an assist from
Bridget Doyle. The Presidents answered to the Bearcats quick goal, scoring seven in the first period altogether. Washington and Jefferson took a 7-1 lead heading to the second quarter.
The Bearcats went on to score the next two goals to dwindle the Presidents' lead and trail by four, 7-3. The back-to-back Bearcat goals were scored by
Joey Smith, assisted by
Rachel Thatcher and
Kaylee Bandow. The Presidents ended the first quarter in a flurry, scoring four times in the last four minutes to up their advantage 11-3 heading into half.

Washington and Jefferson continued on the attack after halftime, outscoring SVC 4-2 in the third frame to carry a 15-5 advantage into the final quarter. The Bearcat goals came from Bandow and Doyle.

In the fourth quarter, the Bearcats were unable to cut into the deficit, as the teams traded goals over the final frame. Thatcher and Smith each scored in the quarter as SVC fell 17-7.

Smith finished the day with a hat trick for the Bearcats. Bandow, Starner, Thatcher and Doyle all had a goal in the game for Saint Vincent as well.
Alexandria Votovich led SVC's defense with two caused turnovers.

Kyra Lipetzky made nine saves in net in the loss for the Bearcats.

The Bearcats will be back in action on Saturday, May 1, when they face Chatham in a PAC matchup to finish out the regular season. Opening draw is scheduled for 2 p.m.
