Bearcats fall to Misericordia, 3-1

DALLAS, Pa (Sept. 10)- The Saint Vincent College men's soccer team traveled to Dallas, Pa. to take on Misericordia University, where they fell by a score of 3-1.

It was an even match for the majority of the first half, as both teams held the other in check on the offensive side of the ball, as the game remained scoreless with a little over a minute remaining in the half.

With just over 30-seconds remaining in the half, Misericordia found the back of the net first. Drew Weaver scored for the Cougars on an assist from Mitchell Dowling to give Misericordia a 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break.

Despite only giving up one goal, Saint Vincent was outshot 11-5 in the half by the Cougars. The Bearcats made three saves in the half compared to Misericordia's one save. Fouls were fairly even in the half, as the Cougars had five fouls, compared to SVC's three.

Unlike the first half, the second half was a high scoring half, as three total goals were scored. Misericordia once again hit the scoreboard first in the half, as Justin Yarabinee scored on assist by Trent Wall just under 17 minutes to go in the half, giving the Cougars a 2-0 lead.

The Bearcats wouldn't go away without a challenge. With about 20 minutes remaining in the game, Joel Quiroz Mansilla capitalized on a Misericordia penalty, scoring on a penalty kick, to cut the Cougars lead to 2-1.

The Bearcats continued to play the Cougars tough, but Misericordia added an insurance goal with 10-minutes to go in the half, as Richard Billings found the back of the net giving the Cougars the 3-1 lead. That 3-1 score would hold over the remaining 10 minutes of the game, as the Cougars defeated the Bearcats.

The Bearcats were outshot in the match by a count of 20-11. Saint Vincent made six saves, compared to just one save made by the Cougars.

Along with the Bearcat goal scorer, Mansila, three other Saint Vincent players compiled two shots, those being Erwin Suarez, Eduardo Richa, and Antonio Mendes. Mendes also compiled one shot on goal for Saint Vincent. Kameron Rock took the loss in net for SVC, giving up three goals, while making six saves.

The Bearcats have a quick turnaround as they return to host Penn-State New Kensington on Sunday, September 11. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
