NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (Sept. 2) – The Saint Vincent men's and women's cross country teams got the 2022 season off on a strong note at the Fisher Invitational 5K, hosted by Westminster College.
In the first race of the evening, freshman
Kristen Prince placed second overall in her collegiate debut to lead the Bearcat women to a second-place finish in the team standings, before junior
Tim Patterson breezed to a first-place finish in the men's race, helping his team to a third-place finish.
Prince opened her career with a time of 18:31.78 to earn runner-up honors in a field made up of both Division I and Division III competitors and was one of four Bearcat freshmen to place in the top 20 of the 60-runner field.
Miranda Cincotta took sixth in 19:20.54,
Cassy Lanza 13th in 19:29.96 and
Lily Murphy 16th in 19:34.48.
Lauren Brennan rounded out SVC's scoring five with a time of 19:52.78 to place 21st.
On the team leaderboard, Saint Vincent placed second with a total of 56 points, seven behind first-place Allegheny and two in front of Division I Robert Morris. Grove City (94 points) and Franciscan (102) rounded out the standings.
On the men's side, Patterson opened up his junior year by cruising to a 33-second victory, breaking the tape in 14:55.94. Senior
Joey Bujdos began his final collegiate campaign by placing 11th in 15:40.42, one spot and eight seconds ahead of teammate
Jeremy Capella (15:52.44).
Jeffrey Raynor was a third Bearcat to place in the top 20, taking 19th in 16:00.81, while
Brady Sundin was SVC's fifth finisher, timed in 16:07.05. Sundin was followed closely by teammates
Aiden Jackson (16:09.98),
Ethan Wymer (16:11.04) and
Joey Jafarace (16:12.40).
Franciscan won the team championship, amassing 41 points, eight ahead of Robert Morris. Saint Vincent, with its team score of 65, placed third, followed by Grove City (87), Allegheny (98) and Westminster (182).
The Bearcats will now have a week-long layoff before returning to action on Friday, Sept. 9, when they host the Saint Vincent College Invitational.
