Men's Soccer falls to Mount Aloysius on the road

CRESSON, Pa (Sept. 7)- The Saint Vincent men's soccer team lost their first contest of the season, falling to Mount Aloysius 4-2.

Mount Aloysius got on the scoreboard first, as the Mounties Ethan Meader found the back of the net just about nine minutes into the first half, giving them a 1-0 lead.

That would be the only goal for the majority of the first half, as both teams played a strong defensive half for the most part. With 1:36 to go in the half, the Mounties increased their lead to 2-0, as Meader found the net once again for Mount Aloysius.

The Bearcats wouldn't go down without a fight, as they answered back with ten seconds to go in the half, as Alexander Cruz scored on a free kick, cutting the Mount Aloysius lead to 2-1 heading into the halftime break.

In the first half, Mount Aloysius out shot the Bearcats 6-4, while the Bearcats made three saves, compared to the Mounties one. Saint Vincent committed just four fouls in the first half, compared to the Mounties 10 fouls in the half.

Mount Aloysius struck first in the second half. Logan Walerysiak scored about 14 minutes in the half, increasing the Mounties lead to 3-1.

Once again, Saint Vincent responded. This time, Ben Bethke scored on a pass into the box, trimming the Mount Aloysius lead to 3-2 with just over 23 minutes remaining in the game.

The Bearcats continued to apply pressure and match Mount Aloysius, but the Mounties added an insurance goal with just over three minutes remaining in the game, as Juan Camacho scored for Mount Aloysius to increase the lead 4-2.

Neither team was able to score in the remaining three minutes of the game, as the Mounties handed the Bearcats their first loss of the season 4-2.

Along with Cruz's goal, he added three total shots in the game, including two shots on goal. Shane Piper took the loss in net for Saint Vincent, making four saves, while allowing four goals.

Mount Aloysius out shot the Bearcats 12-10 in the game, while the Bearcats made four saves, compared to the Mounties one.

Saint Vincent will return to action on Saturday, September 10 when they travel to Dallas, Pa. to take on Misericordia University. The match is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
