Men's and women's swimming win big on senior day

LATROBE, Pa. (Jan. 28) – The Saint Vincent men's and women's swim team's hosted Lycoming College in a non-conference meet on senior day in Resnik Pool. The Bearcats swept the Warriors on both the men's and women's side.
 
On the women's side SVC came away with a commanding 208-37 victory and on the men's side the Bearcats also won by a large 195-48 margin.
 
The Bearcat women won all 14 events on the day. In the first event of the day the quartet of Lauren Connors, Sara Basala, Katie Kozy, and Erica Steele came in first place in the 200-yard medley relay. The quartet swam a time of 1:52.80 to win the event.
 
Along with with being a part of the winning 200-yard medley relay team, Steele recorded individual wins in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle as well. Basala recorded an individual win as well, hers coming in the 100-yard breaststroke, swimming a time of 1:12.73. Connors also won a couple of individual events herself, winning the 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard backstroke. Kozy scored an individual win in the 100-yard butterfly, swimming a time of 1:01.46.
 
Emma Morgan picked up the Bearcats first individual win of the afternoon in the 1000-yard freestyle event. Morgan swam a time of 12:32.02 which was over one minute faster than her teammate Charlotte Jordan who finished in second place for Saint Vincent.
 
Abby Leskovansky scored an individual win for the Bearcats as well. Leskovansky won the 100-yard backstroke event, swimming a time of 1:05.07, six seconds faster than her teammate Brooke Himich who finished in second place in the event.
 
Cara Luallen won the 50-yard freestyle event, swimming a time of 25.34, just seven tenths of a second in front of her teammate Kozy, who finished in second place.
 
Emma Martz, Elise Debrot, and Julia Mikita all won individual events for the Bearcats as well. Martz won the 200-yard breaststroke, swimming a time of 2:39.48, Debrot won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:03.83, and Mikita won the 400-yard IM, swimming a time of 5:20.28.
 
The Bearcat women closed the day out with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The quartet of Martz, Leskovansky, Alexander, and Maddy Cassidy won the event swimming a time of 1:45.
 
Just as the women did, the Bearcat men won all 14 of their events on senior day as well. The relay team of Nicholas Jackman, Chris Bush, Noah Schollaert, and Kris Smith won the Bearcats their first event of the day in the 200-yard medley relay. The quartet swam a time of 1:45.71, three seconds faster than the second-place relay team from Lycoming.
 
Along with competing on 200 medley relay team, Jackman also scored individual wins in the 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard IM. Jackman swam a time of 1:53.94 in the 200-yard freestyle and 4:32.94 in the 400-yard IM. Bush also won an individual event, winning the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:18.68, eight seconds faster than William Marcinkowski of Lycoming who finished in second in the event.
 
Smith was impressive on senior day as well. Smith won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:02.27 finishing just ahead of his teammate Bush who finished in second place. He also won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.68 seconds. Alex Leskovansky finished just behind Smith to finish second in the event.
 
It was a big day for Jacob Dzurica as well. Dzurica won the 100-yard backstroke, 50-yard freestyle, and 200-yard backstroke. In the 100-yard backstroke he raced a time of 53.01, seven seconds faster than CJ Zortman of Lycoming who finished in second. He also swam times of 22.22 in the 50-yard freestyle and 2:01.74 in the 200-yard backstroke.
 
James Clark also scored an individual win for Saint Vincent, winning the 1000-yard freestyle event. Clark swam a time of 11:18.91, finishing ahead of his teammate Hayden Klein who finished in second place in the event.
 
Robert Harrington won a couple of individual events as well for the Bearcats. Harrington won the 200-yard butterfly, swimming a time of 2:15.94, three seconds better than his teammate, Schollaert, who finished in second place in the event. He also won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:24.78, four seconds faster than his teammate Colin Spehar who finished in second place.
 
The Bearcat men ended their day winning the 200-yard freestyle relay. The relay team of Smith, Dzurica, Leskovansky, and Spehard came in first place in the event. The quartet swam a time of 1:30.74 to win the event.
 
The Bearcat men and women will both be back in action on Saturday, February 4, when they travel to Alliance, Ohio for a non-conference meet at Mount Union. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
