Women's soccer dazzles under the lights

LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 11) – The Saint Vincent women's soccer team made its first game under the lights at UPMC Field a memorable one, as it defeated Thiel College 8-0 in an impressive performance.

Saint Vincent (8-3-2, 4-1-1 PAC) featured six different goal scorers, while eight different players registered at least one point, as it moved its unbeaten streak to six games. The Bearcats recorded season-highs in goals, assists (7) and shots (35) in the victory.

SVC wasted little time in gaining a lead, as rookie Jordan Kirkwood opened the scoring just 3:21 into play, netting her third goal of the season with assists credited to Emma Koller and Tanisha Grewal.

The Bearcats would then erupt for three goals in a two-minute span. Addie Fisher netted her first career goal 9:07 into the half, assisted by Kirkwood, before Koller scored her team-leading 10th goal of the year, assisted by Grewal, to open up a three-goal lead 10:49 into play.  Just 20 seconds later, Grewal, the reigning PAC Offensive Player of the Week, made it 4-0 after scoring on a breakaway following a long pass from Hailie Stamm.

Grewal scored her second goal of the game, and recorded her sixth point of the half, with a strike in the 24th minute, before Brooke Garman closed out the first half's scoring with her third goal of the season in the 37th minute to extend the lead to 6-0.

The Bearcats continued to control play over the second frame. In the 62nd minute, Garman scored her second of the night, assisted by Emily Ambrose, while Lexi Durkacs closed out the night's scoring with her unassisted strike in the 72nd minute.

Saint Vincent closed the night with a 35-3 advantage in shots, outshooting the Tomcats 23-2 in the first half and 12-1 over the second frame.

Madison Arnold started in goal and played the first 45 minutes, recording a pair of saves, before Maggie Perkins came on to play the second half, and was not forced to make a save.

The Bearcats will return to PAC action this Saturday, Oct. 14, hosting Franciscan University at noon at UPMC Field.
