Men's swimming hosts Mount Union in season-opener

LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 21) – In its 2023-24 season lid-lifter, the Saint Vincent men's swimming team was defeated 174-88 by the University of Mount Union in the Resnik Pool.
 
Saint Vincent got the afternoon off to a strong start, as the 200 medley relay quartet of Jacob Dzurica, Liam Randolph, Colin Spehar and Alex Leskovansky placed first with a time of 1:38.68, winning by less than a quarter-second.
 
Nickolas Jackman paced Saint Vincent in the first individual event of the day, placing second in the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 10:46.51, before Leskovansky turned in SVC's top performance in the 200-yard freestyle, placing fourth in 1:56.90.
 
Dzurica earned the Bearcats' first individual win of the season, earning a half-second victory in the 50-yard backstroke in 25.01 seconds, before Randolph earned his first win in the 50-yard breaststroke in 27.87 seconds.
 
Spehar followed with a third-place showing in the 100-yard butterfly, timed in 54.79 seconds, while Leskovansky recorded third-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (23.27 seconds) and the 100-yard freestyle (51.91 seconds).
 
Dzurica took runner-up honors in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 53.92 seconds, before Randolph picked up his second win of the day, topping the field in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:01.92, winning by exactly two seconds.
 
After Jackman placed third in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:12.82, Spehar placed third in the 50-yard butterfly in 25.07 seconds. In the final individual event of the day, Randolph earned his third victory, winning the 100-yard individual medley in 56.47 seconds.
 
The Bearcats would then close out the afternoon with the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Spehar, Robert Harrington, Hayden Klein and Dzurica placing third in 1:33.04.
 
Saint Vincent will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 27, hosting Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Allegheny College at 6 p.m. in the Resnik Pool.
