BETHANY, W.Va. (Oct. 7) – The Saint Vincent College women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to five games with a 2-0 shutout victory at Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Bethany College.
The victory moves the Bearcats to 7-3-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the PAC, while Bethany falls to 2-7-3 overall and 1-4 in league play.
The Bearcats scored once in each half, while junior goalkeeper
Madison Arnold recorded five saves to earn her fifth shutout of the season and 11th of her career.
Freshman
Emma Koller continued her torrid play, scoring the game's first goal in the 28th minute. The unassisted marker was her team-leading ninth of the season, while she now has scored seven goals over her team's last four games.
After outshooting SVC 5-3 in a defensive first half, the Bison took five of the first six attempts of the second frame, but Arnold made a pair of saves to keep the hosts off the board.
The Bearcats would then add some very late insurance when senior
Tanisha Grewal scored her sixth goal of the season with just seven seconds left in regulation to account for the final score.
Bethany ended the afternoon with an 11-7 advantage in shots, with Grewal taking four and Koller three for SVC. Both teams took two corner kicks.
History will be made when the Bearcats next return to action, as they will host PAC foe Thiel at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 11, at UPMC Field, the first ever home night game in SVC women's soccer history.
