ANNVILLE, Pa. (Nov. 11)- The Saint Vincent women's basketball team opened up their first of two games at Lebanon Valley with a commanding, 84-40 victory against Penn State-Schulykill.

The Bearcats were led by senior guard,
Emily Cavacini who led all scorers on the afternoon with 24 points, shooting a strong 9-13 from the field and 6-8 from beyond the three-point line.
Makenna Maier totaled a career-high 18 points for SVC, while also grabbing six rebounds as well.

Lizzie Bender, and freshman,
Kate Bollinger both totaled eight points in the win. Bollinger also grabbed five rebounds and Bender recorded three.
Madison Weber and
Olivia Yancy each added six points in the dominant win for Saint Vincent.

After the game was tied 5-5 early in the first quarter, the Bearcats took control from that point on. SVC outscored the Lions 19-8 over the final six and a half minutes of the quarter, including a quick 12-4 run over the final couple minutes of the opening quarter to take a 24-13 lead heading into the second quarter.

Despite the game being played tighter in the second quarter, the Saint Vincent defense remained strong, outscoring the Lions 15-10 in the second quarter. The SVC defense forced seven turnovers in the second quarter alone, while the Bearcats held Schuylkill to shoot just 2-14 from the field in the quarter as SVC went into the half with a 39-23 lead.

The dominant defensive play carried into the third quarter for the Bearcats. Saint Vincent held the Lions scoreless for the first seven minutes and change of the second half, while they scored 16 points during that time span to increase their lead to 55-23.

The Lions first points of the half came around the 2:50 mark of the half, draining two free throws. The Bearcats did not allow a single made field goal in the quarter, limiting the Lions to shoot 0-14 in the quarter. Saint Vincent outscored Schuylkill 25-3 in the quarter to hold a 64-26 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

The Bearcats dominated the fourth quarter as well. Saint Vincent outscored Schuylkill 20-14 in the quarter to cruise to the 84-40 win.

As a team, Saint Vincent limited Schuylkill to shoot just 11-50 (22 percent) from the field and 2-6 from beyond on the three-point line. The Bearcat defense also forced 25 turnovers in the win as well.

Offensively, SVC was a strong 34-72 (47 percent) from the field and 11-30 (37 percent) from beyond the three-point line. Saint Vincent recorded 43 of their points from players coming off the bench and 36 points inside the paint.

The Bearcats return to action with a matchup against the host, Lebanon Valley, tomorrow, Sunday, November 12. Tip off is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Annville, Pa.
