Ostrowski Scores 30, Leads Bearcats to Fifth Straight Win to Open Season

GREENVILLE, Pa. (Nov. 21)- The Saint Vincent men's basketball team won their fifth straight open the season up after defeating Thiel 90-70 on the road.

A 34-13 run for the Bearcats over the final 11 minutes of the first half helped lead Saint Vincent (5-0, 3-0 PAC) over Thiel (2-4, 1-2 PAC).

Fresh off of his PAC Player of the Week honor, Dev Ostrowski scored 30 points, while grabbing nine rebounds, finishing one rebound shy of a double/double. Ostrowski was a strong 10-15 from the field and 5-6 from beyond the three-point line, while also going 5-6 from the stripe.

Jaden Gales was strong for Saint Vincent in the big win as well, scoring 18 points, while also grabbing eight rebounds. Osyon Jones and Mike Iuzzolino both scored in double figures as well, scoring 12 and ten respectively for the Bearcats in the win.

Coming off the bench, Jaden Bailey scored eight points on a perfect 4-4 night from the field. Corey Harden added six points and six rebounds, while Jovany Philistin tallied four points in his 12 minutes of court time. Tayler McNeal rounded out the scoring for the Bearcats, scoring two points while also dishing out three assists.

It was back-and-forth early on in the half as the team's traded baskets over the first four-minutes of game time. The first four minutes had four ties at 2-2, 4-4, 6-6, and 8-8. Thiel's Mike Brown drilled a three-pointer to give the Tomcats an 11-8 lead but from that point on it was all Saint Vincent.

The Bearcats closed the half out on a 34-13 run over the remaining 11 minutes of the half to hold an 18-point lead at the break. Ostrowski scored ten points for the Bearcats over that run.

In the half, the Bearcats shot a strong 51 percent (16-31) from the field, while limiting Thiel to just 11-40 (28 percent) shooting from the field. Saint Vincent held the Tomcats to just one made three-pointer in the half, while going 4-10 from deep on their offensive end.

Saint Vincent held the lead for 13 minutes in the opening half, while also outrebounding Thiel 26-20 going into the break.

It was an evenly played second half, with the Bearcats slightly winning the high scoring half 48-46. Over the first seven minutes of the half, Saint Vincent opened up the lead to 22 after a successful layup by Gales made the score 63-41.

The Bearcats attack continued as they opened up the lead to their largest lead of the game at 27 after a made layup by Bailey with 1:47 left to make the score 90-63. After the benches were emptied Thiel went on a 7-0 run to close out the contest but the SVC lead was too much as the Bearcats scored their fifth win a row to open up the season.

Saint Vincent shot a strong 60 percent (34-57) from the field in the game. They also held the Tomcats to shoot under 40 percent, shooting 29-78 from the field. Saint Vincent was 8-15 from beyond the three-point line, while Thiel was 4-13 from deep.
