Women's Basketball Falls at Bethany

Bethany, W.V. (Dec. 16)- The Saint Vincent women's basketball team fell on the road to Bethany by a final score of 70-58 on Saturday afternoon.
 
The loss for SVC is their second PAC loss in a row.
 
Three Bearcats scored in double-figures with Camdon Bashor leading the way with 12 points. Reese Gadsby and Lizzie Bender both added ten points for Saint Vincent as well.
 
Alana Winkler scored eight points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Emily Cavacini scored seven for Saint Vincent. Makenna Maier grabbed five rebound and scored four points to add to the Bearcats total.
 
In the first quarter, it was the Bison who jumped out to the early lead. Bethany opened up to a quick 10-4 lead out of the gates with 5:42 remaining in the quarter.
 
SVC answered with a quick 6-2 run to cut the Bethany lead to just two at 12-10, but the Bison answered with a 6-0 run to open their lead up to eight at 18-10. Cavacini answered for Saint Vincent with a three-pointer and Maier scored on a layup cutting the lead back to three at 18-15.
 
Bethany scored the final three points of the opening quarter to hold a 21-15 lead going into the second quarter.
 
The Bearcats started to cut into the Bethany lead in the second quarter. Saint Vincent trailed for the entirety of the quarter, but SVC trailed by just 2-3 points for the majority of the quarter. After trailing by five, Cavacini drilled a three-ball late in the quarter to cut the Bison lead to 40-38 at the half.
 
Saint Vincent opened the second half on the attack. The Bearcats scored the first four points of the half on two free throws from Bender and a layup by Gadsby to cut take their first lead of the game at 42-40. The SVC lead would not last long as Bethany answered with a 15-5 run to take a 55-47 lead and ended the quarter leading by ten at 58-48.
 
The Bison closed it out in the fourth quarter, leading between 10-12 points for the entirety of the quarter. SVC was outscored 12-10 in the final quarter as Bethnay secured the 70-58 win.
 
SVC was limited to shoot just 36 percent from the field, going 22-60. As a team the Bearcats turned the ball over 13 times, also forcing 12 Bison turnovers as well.
 
The Bearcats will now travel to Daytona Beach, Florida next week for their Christmas break trip. Saint Vincent will take on Bethel University on Wednesday, December 20 at 5 p.m. and Bates on Thursday, December 21 at 3 p.m., both in Daytona Beach next week.
