Bearcats split non-conference doubleheader at Mount Aloysius

CRESSON, Pa. (Mar. 21)- The Saint Vincent baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Mount Aloysius, winning game one 8-4 and falling in game two, 15-10.

Saint Vincent (6-9) ended their six game losing streak in game one before Mount Aloysius (4-10) used a late comeback in game two, as the Bearcats split the doubleheader
 
GAME ONE- Saint Vincent 8, Mount Aloysius 4
 
Andrew Root registered the win on the mound for the Bearcats, pitching 5.2 innings, giving up four earned runs on six hits, while striking out three batters and walking two in the win for Saint Vincent. Sean McAleer came in relief of root, earning the 1.1 inning save, giving u zero runs on just one hit, while striking out two batters and walking one for the Bearcats.
 
Michael Klingensmith, Billy Perroz, Derek Hald, and Connor Bannias all had two hits for the Bearcats on offense. Hald and Bannias recorded seven RBI's combined with Hald recording four RBI's and Bannias driving in three runs. Bannias cracked a two-run homer to centerfield in the game for Saint Vincent.
 
Jordan Sabol, Dalton Nicklow, L.J. Evans, and Alex Hess all had three hits in the game one win for Saint Vincent. Nicklow added two runs scored and Evans added one run scored as well for SVC.
 
The first three innings of the game it looked as if the game was going to be a pitcher's duel as the game headed to the fourth inning scoreless. Neither team threatened to score in the first three innings as there were just three hits combined in those innings.
 
In the fourth inning, Mount Aloysius got on the board first. The Mounties took advantage of three hits in the inning, scoring two runs on those three hits to take a 2-0 lead in the game heading into the fifth inning.
 
The Bearcats chipped away at the Mount Aloysius lead in the fifth as they cut the Mounties lead in half. Nicklow walked to lead off the inning and stole second on a strikeout. Hald followed the strikeout with a groundout to the shortstop and Nicklow advanced to third.
 
Bannias followed Hald's groundout with a two-out RBI single up the middle, cutting the Mounties lead to 2-1. After Bannias stole second and Hess walked, Sabol ended the inning with a flyout to center as the score remained 2-1 in favor of Mount Aloysius heading into the bottom of the fifth.
 
Root set down the Mounties in order in the bottom half of the fifth inning and the Bearcat bats erupted in the top of the sixth. Saint Vincent plated five runs on seven hits in the sixth inning.
 
Evans recorded an RBI single, scoring Klingensmith to tie the game up at 2-2. Hald followed with a two-RBI double that gave Saint Vincent a 4-2 lead and Bannias followed that smashing his two-run homerun to left center to increase the Saint Vincent lead to 6-2 heading into the sixth inning.
 
The Mounties cut into the Saint Vincent lead in the bottom of the sixth, scoring two runs to cut the Bearcats lead to 6-4 but SVC answered back in the seventh, getting those two runs right back.
 
After a strikeout to start the inning for SVC, Perroz and Nicklow hit back-to-back singles and the Bearcats were in business with only one out. Evans followed with a groundout that advanced Perroz and Nicklow and Hald came through clutch once again with a two-RBI single up the middle to increase the Saint Vincent lead to 8-4 heading into the last half inning.
 
McAleer closed the door on the game in the bottom of the seventh for SVC, as the Mounties got two runners on but were unable to plate either of those runners as the Bearcats earned the game one win.
 
The Bearcats line in game one was eight runs on 12 hits, and committed one error.
 
GAME TWO- Mount Aloysius 15, Saint Vincent 10
In game two bot offenses came alive as the teams combined to score 25 runs, with 24 combined hits as well.
 
Jayke Saiani, Devin Bonine, along with Sabol all recorded two hits in game two. Sabol scored three runs and walked twice, Bonine scored two runs and walked once, and Saiani also added one RBI in the big offensive game for Saint Vincent.
 
Kyle Belmont, Dimitri Gary, Matthew Lockwich, along with Bannias, and Perroz all recorded one hit for Saint Vincent in game two. Perroz's lone hit in game two was a two-run homerun in the sixth inning.
 
The Saint Vincent pitching staff went through seven pitchers in the game. Klingensmith got the start, earning the no-decision on the mound, pitching 3.1 innings, giving up two runs (one earned run) on three hits in the loss. Jacob Hess was the pitcher of record, earning the loss on the mound, pitching 0.2 innings in relief giving up one earned run on two hits for Saint Vincent.
 
The Bearcats got on the board first in game two, as Belmont tallied an RBI-double and Bannias recorded an RBI single to give Saint Vincent the lead 2-0 at the end of the first inning.
 
Both teams bats went silent over the next couple of innings as SVC still lead 2-0 heading into the fourth inning. In the fourth inning, the Mounties plated three runs to grab their first lead of the game at 3-2.
 
In the fifth inning there was total of 14 runs scored between the two teams. In the top half of the fifth, Saint Vincent scored five runs on two hits, also capitalizing on two Mount Aloysius errors.
 
In the inning, Saiani recorded an RBI single, Bonine reach on an RBI fielder's choice, and Gary laced an RBI-triple to right center to give SVC a 7-2 lead. Lockwich reached on a throwing error that scored Gary as Saint Vincent held an 8-2 lead going into the bottom half of the inning.
 
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Mount Aloysius erupted for nine runs. The Mounties scored their nine runs on eight hits in the inning, including a grand slam as Mount Aloysius took an 11-8 lead heading into the sixth inning.
 
Perroz struck in the sixth with his big two-run homer that scored Sabol, cutting the Mount Aloysius lead to 11-10 but the Mounties answered back in the bottom half of the inning.
 
The Mounties scored four more runs in the bottom of the sixth and held the Bearcats in check in the top of the seventh to seal the 15-11 win, as the Bearcats split the doubleheader.
 
The Bearcats line in game two was ten runs, on 11 hits, while committing one error in the loss.
 
The Bearcats now enter into PAC play this weekend with a doubleheader on the road at Waynesburg on Saturday, March 25. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Waynesburg.
