HUNTINGDON, Pa. (April 10) – The Saint Vincent women's tennis team breezed to a 9-0 road victory over non-conference foe Juniata College.
After ceding just two points over the three doubles matches, the Bearcats (9-0) went on to sweep singles in dominating fashion, surrendering points in just two of the six matches to keep the host Eagles winless on the season.
The doubles tandem of
Abby Donnelly and
Lydia Lieb earned the Bearcats' first win, cruising to an 8-0 whitewashing in the No. 2 spot. The tandem of
Carolina Walters and
Angela Popovich then promptly gave the Bearcats a 2-0 lead after an 8-2 pasting at the No. 1 doubles spot, before
Emily Pierce and
Julia Runk won at No. 3 doubles via forfeit.
In singles play, Popovich earned a forfeit win in the No. 6 spot, before Walters, Donnelly and Runk all coasted to 6-0, 6-0 victories and Lieb won 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 3 spot.
Pierce had the match of the day at the No. 2 spot. After taking the opening set 6-4, she was defeated 6-2 to send it into a tiebreaker. She would then claim a 10-8 victory in the extra set to seal the 9-0 blanking.
The Bearcats will be back in action on Thursday, April 12, closing out the 2022-23 regular season with a 3:30 p.m. home match against Waynesburg University.
