MEADVILLE, Pa. (Apr. 27)- The Saint Vincent baseball team earned a doubleheader split with Allegheny, falling in game one 7-2 and winning game two 8-0.

In game one Saint Vincent (18-16, 10-7 PAC) led 2-1 through four and a half innings of play but a three-run homer in the fifth inning and three more insurance runs in the eighth innings pushed Allegheny (20-14, 13-5 PAC) past SVC in game one. In game two,
Michael Klingensmith twirled a three-hit complete game shutout and
L.J. Evans launched a grand slam in route to an 8-0 SVC win to keep their PAC playoff hopes alive.

Game One- Allegheny 7, Saint Vincent 2
Evans led the way for the Bearcats in game one as well, as he recorded a team-high three hits in the leadoff position, while also knocking in an RBI for the Bearcats.

Kyle Belmont,
Jordan Sabol, and
Devin Bonine all recorded hits for SVC in the game one loss as well. Sabol hit a solo homerun for the Bearcats in the second inning, while drawing a walk as well.

Casey Jones took the loss on the mound for SVC, working 7.1 innings, giving up five earned runs on nine hits, while striking out six batters and walking four in the loss.

The Gators scored first, as they took a 1-0 lead on an RBI single through the right side in the bottom of the first inning. In the top half of the second, Sabol launched his homerun to left field to get Saint Vincent on the board, tying the game up 1-1.

The pitching for both teams was strong over the next couple of innings as the game remained tied 1-1 through four innings. The Bearcats took the lead in the fifth inning as Evans ripped an RBI single to right field, scoring
Connor Bannias to give SVC a 2-1 lead.

Allegheny answered in a big way in the bottom half of the inning. The Gators launched a three-run homer to take a 4-2 lead at the end of the fifth and held strong the rest of the way.

The Bearcats were shutout over their final four at-bats and Allegheny added three insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth to secure the 7-2 win in game one.

Game Two- Saint Vincent 8, Allegheny 0
The Bearcats used a seven run fourth inning to guide them to the much needed victory in game two.

Klingensmith was dominant in game two, twirling his complete game three hit shutout for his fourth win of the season on the mound. Klingensmith went all nine innings, giving up just the three hits, while striking out seven and walking three in the win for SVC.

Offensively for SVC, Evans picked up right where he left off in game one, launching a grand slam in the big third inning for the Bearcats. Bannias was big at the plate in game two as well, going 2-4 with two RBI's and one run scored as well.

Billy Perroz also tallied two hits in his five at-bats, while also scoring one run as well.
Owen Kitts recorded one hit and one RBI in the win as well.
Dalton Nicklow,
Alex Hess, Bonine, and Sabol all recorded one hit in the game two win for Saint Vincent as well.

After a scoreless first three innings, the Bearcat bats came alive in the fourth inning. The Bearcats scored the seven runs on six hits in the inning. Nicklow started the scoring off with an RBI single that scored Perroz, giving SVC a 1-0 lead.

Bannias followed with an RBI single of his own that scored Sabol to increase the lead to 2-0. After Hess was hit by a pitch, Kitts ripped an RBI single to center field that scored the pinch runner
Dimitri Gary as SVC led 3-0. That's when Evans launched his grand slam to right field, giving SVC a 7-0 lead.

The Bearcats added another run in the fifth inning as Bannias reached on an infield single that scored Sabol to make the score 8-0.

Klingensmith was dominant the rest of the way, shutting the door for the game two win for SVC.

The Bearcats return to action on Sunday, April 30 with a non-conference matchup against Pitt-Greensburg at Bearcat Ball Field, before closing out their conference schedule with a doubleheader at Thiel on Saturday, May 6. First pitch in the game against UPG is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday.
