Bearcats and Presidents play to scoreless draw

WASHINGTON, Pa. (Sept. 23)- The Saint Vincent men's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw against PAC-foe Washington and Jefferson in a defensive heavy game.
 
The Bearcats were led by sophomore goalkeeper Kameron Rock. Rock helped shutout the Presidents, making four saves in goal, including stopping a couple of scoring opportunities for W&J in the second half.
 
Antonio Mendes and Mattia Speretta both recorded two shots on goal in the tie for the Bearcats. Additionally, Andres Mateos Carrion, Ethan Bridges, and David Rahaman all recorded one shot on goal as well.
 
Coming off of the bench, Kelvin Aguilar-Contreras recorded a shot on goal for SVC as well. Mariano Jiminez and Logan Kremposky each recorded a shot as well, but neither were on goal.
 
It was a very evenly played first half, where the defenses of both the Bearcats and Presidents took full control.
 
In the opening half, both teams recorded four shots, with all four for the Bearcats being on goal. There was only one total corner kick in the half with that being for Saint Vincent. Both teams recorded four fouls as well.
 
In the second half, it was much of the same story. Both teams had a few scoring opportunities but neither was able to capitalize on those opportunities accompanied with strong goaltender play for both the Bearcats and Presidents.
 
W&J recorded 12 shots in the half in comparison to SVC's seven. Rock made all four of his saves for Saint Vincent in the half. Each team recorded two corner kicks and the Bearcats tallied six fouls in comparison to five by the Presidents.
 
Overall, Washington and Jefferson had 16 shots to the Bearcats 11 but, eight of SVC's were on goal, compared to just four by W&J. W&J recorded eight saves and the Bearcats made four in total.
 
SVC recorded three corner kicks, compared to two from the Presidents. Fouls were 10-9 with SVC committing the ten and the Presidents committing the nine.
 
The Bearcats will continue PAC play in their next match when they travel to take on Waynesburg on Wednesday, September 27. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
