Bearcats fall to Geneva, 1-0

LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 30)- The Saint Vincent men's soccer team fell to Geneva by a 1-0 final score at UPMC Field in a PAC match on Saturday afternoon.

The deciding goal was scored in the 72nd minute by the Golden Tornadoes', Noah Dworakowski and that's all Geneva would need to score the road victory.

Kameron Rock was strong in net for the Bearcats, making six saves for the Bearcats. Coming off of the bench, Antonio Mendes and Kelvin Aguilar-Contreras tallied two of the three shots on goal for SVC with Mendes recording three total shots, two of those being on goal and Aguilar-Contreras adding a shot on goal as well.

Andres Mateos Carrion had the other shot on goal for the Bearcats as he recorded two shots total in the loss.

It was all Geneva in the first half as they controlled the ball in their offensive end for the majority of the half. The Golden Tornadoes outshot Saint Vincent 8-0 in the first half. The Bearcats did not record a corner kick in the half, while Geneva recorded one.

The Golden Tornadoes committed six fouls compared to SVC's four fouls. Despite being outshot 8-0, the SVC defense led by Rock held the Golden Tornadoes in check as the match went to the half with no score.

Saint Vincent gained some momentum in the offensive end early in the second half for the first time of the day but were unable to capitalize. After back-and-forth play, that's when Dworakowski scored what would be the game-winner for the Golden Tornadoes in the 72nd minute.

With about 14-seconds remaining in the half Mendes had an opportunity for a free kick about ten yards out but his shot was saved by Geneva's goaltender, Evan Shale to secure the victory for the GT's.

Overall, Geneva recorded 17 shots, seven of which were on goal, compared to six shots for the Bearcats with four being on goal. Geneva tallied five corner kicks compared to just one from SVC. Saint Vincent committed 12 total fouls in the match, while the GT's committed 18.

SVC looks to get back on track when they travel to Carlow University for a non-conference matchup against the Celtics. The match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. in Pittsburgh.
